For setting up a factory for various industries, the type of factory is another important factor to classify different types of factories. The Department of Industrial Works has divided them into several categories to cover all businesses, ensuring that establishment can be done safely and production aligns with the specified type. SCMA has introduced all the factories according to the List of Types of Industrial Factories for everyone to see what they are.

Classification of Industrial Factory Types

Industrial Factory Type Classification

According to the Ministry's regulation on factory classification details, there are a total of three types of factories defined by type, kind, and size in the year 2020. Each type is categorized as follows:

Factory Type 1

Must have no more than 20 horsepower machines and employ no more than 20 people, able to operate immediately without a permit.

Factory Type 2

Must have machines ranging from 50 - 75 horsepower and employ between 50 - 75 people. No establishment license is required, but notification of intent to operate and annual fees must be paid.

For both these factory types, if they engage in activities that may cause certain types of pollution, they will be classified as Factory Type 3 even though their numbers do not meet the criteria for Factory Type 3.

Factory Type 3

This type of factory must have more than 75 horsepower machines and employ over 75 people. They are required to obtain a business operation permit (R.N.4) as they are considered potential pollution sources.
