General Description

SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) is a semiconductor device used to control electrical power delivery, especially in AC (alternating current) systems by controlling “Phase Angle” which allows adjusting the voltage supplied to the load.

Working Principle

The SCR controls the conduction of current according to the "phase angle" of the AC signal, meaning setting the time when the SCR starts conducting in each half cycle of the sine wave (Sine Wave).

• When phase angle is small ➜ SCR starts conducting early ➜ Load gets higher voltage
• When phase angle is large ➜ SCR starts conducting late ➜ Load gets lower voltage

This system is called Phase Angle Control, providing continuous and smooth (Smooth Voltage Control).
