General Description

SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) is a semiconductor device used to control electrical power delivery, especially in AC (alternating current) systems by controlling the “phase angle” (Phase Angle Control), allowing for adjustment of the voltage delivered to the load.

Working Principle

The SCR controls the conduction of current according to the "phase angle" of the AC signal, which means setting the time at which the SCR starts conducting in each half cycle of the sine wave (Sine Wave).

• When phase angle is small ➜ SCR starts conducting early ➜ Load receives higher voltage
• When phase angle is large ➜ SCR starts conducting late ➜ Load receives lower voltage

This system is called Phase Angle Control, which provides continuous and smooth (Smooth Voltage Control) voltage adjustment.
