General Description

SCR (Silicon Controlled Rectifier) is a semiconductor device used to control electrical power delivery, especially in AC systems by controlling the “Phase Angle” which allows adjusting the voltage delivered to the load.

Working Principle

The SCR controls current flow according to the "phase angle" of the AC signal, meaning it determines when the SCR will start conducting during each half cycle of the sine wave.

• When phase angle is small ➜ SCR starts conduction early ➜ Load receives higher voltage
• When phase angle is large ➜ SCR starts conduction late ➜ Load receives lower voltage

This system is called Phase Angle Control, providing continuous and smooth (Smooth Voltage Control).
