How a Diaphragm Solenoid Valve Works

Main Components

• Solenoid Coil (Electromagnetic Wire Winding): Creates a magnetic field when electric current flows through it.
• Plunger (Movable Iron Rod): Lifted or lowered by the magnetic field.
• Diaphragm (Flexible Rubber/Silicone Sheet): Opens and closes fluid pathways.
• Pilot Port (Pressure Control Port): A small port that helps control pressure on both sides of the diaphragm.

Operating Mode

Normal Closed (NC) – Normally Closed

• No electricity → Plunger closes the pilot port → Pressure on both sides of the diaphragm is equal → Diaphragm keeps the valve closed.
• Electricity applied → Plunger is pulled up → Pilot port opens → Pressure above the diaphragm decreases → Fluid from below pushes the diaphragm up → Valve opens.

Normal Open (NO) – Normally Open 

• The principle is similar but reversed in terms of pressure → Without electricity, valve is open; with electricity applied, valve closes.
