What is a Push Button?

A push button switch, also known as a momentary switch, is an electrical device that functions to open and close circuits. It is used to control the operation of motors or machinery and serves as a basic component in various industries. Push buttons can be either illuminated or non-illuminated.

Functions of Push Buttons

  • Used to start/stop motors, machines, or automatic systems
  • Used to reset alarms or abnormal statuses
  • Used with relays, contactors, or PLCs to control circuits

Types of Push Buttons

  • Push ON (Momentary ON) Press to turn on, release to turn off (used for starting motors)
  • Push OFF (Momentary OFF) Press to turn off, release to turn on (used for stopping operation)
  • Latching / Maintained Press once to turn on, press again to turn off
  • Emergency Stop (E-Stop) Rotary lock type for emergency stop
  • Illuminated Push Button Has an illuminated status indicator (ON/Power)
