What is a Joystick (Contact Status Change Control Device)?

A joystick, or contact status change control device, is used to control direction or for multi-directional operation by manually manipulating it with your hand. When moved in different directions, the contacts (Contacts) will change their state, such as turning circuits ON or OFF in the desired direction.

Purpose of a Joystick

It is used to control machinery or equipment that requires multi-directional operation and can freely control movement paths.

  • Up, Down, Left, Right
  • Forward, Backward
  • Stop, Move

General Structure of a Joystick

  • Handle or Grip (Handle)
  • A pivoting mechanism for multi-directional control movement.
  • Contact Block attached at the bottom to send ON/OFF commands according to the direction of manipulation.
  • Some models can also be fitted with Push Buttons or Emergency Stop buttons on top of the joystick.

Types of Joysticks Based on Directional Operation

  • 2-way for controlling up, down, left, right directions.
  • 4-way for controlling in the up, down, left, and right directions.
  • 8-way for controlling in the up, down, left, right, and diagonal directions such as upper-right, lower-left.
  • Spring Return type automatically returns to a central position when released after manipulation.
  • Maintained type remains at the last position until new control is applied after stopping movement.
