How a Diaphragm Solenoid Valve Works

Main Components

• Solenoid Coil (Electromagnetic Wire Winding): Creates a magnetic field when electric current flows through it.
• Plunger (Movable Iron Rod): Moves up/down with the magnetic field.
• Diaphragm (Flexible Rubber/Silicone Sheet): Opens and closes fluid channels.
• Pilot Port (Pressure Control Port): A small port that helps control pressure on both sides of the diaphragm.

Operating Mode

Normal Closed (NC) – Normally Closed 

• No electricity → Plunger closes the pilot port → Pressure on both sides of the diaphragm is equal → Diaphragm closes the valve.
• When powered → Plunger is pulled up → Opens the pilot port → Pressure above the diaphragm decreases → Fluid from below pushes the diaphragm up → Valve opens.

Normal Open (NO) – Normally Open 

• Similar principle but reversed pressure side → When no power valve is open, when powered valve closes.
